There's a huge amount to see in the area around Kas: Kekova, Simena, Kalkan, Myra, Demre, Saklikent, Kaputas... We'd like to introduce a few of these places, which are easily visited on organised tours, by public transport or under your steam (by car or moped).

We are ready to help you to plan an excursion day.

KEKOVA / Simena
Today's Üçagiz is a tiny seaside village around 35 km from Kas. The village and various small and larger islands around are scattered with relics from the Lycian period.
Üçagiz Bay and Kekova Island.
The Island of Kekova lies in the Bay of Uçagiz. Ancient Kekova was submerged after a big earthquake in 240 A.D., but many of the ruins are still visible above water. Kekova is a popular destination for daily boat tours and yachtsmen alike.
Simena, the sunken city of Simena, which lies right in front of Kekova Island, dates from the 4th century B.C. Parts of the city are also above water, including the amphitheatre (the smallest in the world) and city walls dating from Roman times. Snorkelling offers incredible underwater views of the ruins of the sunken city, with streets and building foundations still intact. Submerged by an earthquake in 240 A.D., Simena is a fascinating combination of city ruins and tombs set in a spectacular, partly submerged cliffscape.
KYAENAI

20 km away from Kas is Kyaenai, an ancient city of exceptional beauty perched 200 meters above the village of Yavi.
The city's acropolis offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and sea.

Here you'll also come across countless ruins dating also from the Byzantine period, city walls, a remarkably preserved amphitheatre and hundreds of rock tombs perched impossibly on the sheer cliff face.
PHELLOS

is only 12 km away from Kas. Phellos was one of the most important cities within the ancient lycian federation. Today there are only ruins of tombs, the city wall and basements of houses to visit. Just for the excellent view it is worth to have a walk in Phellos.

Santa Claus is from Turkey! Begining of the fourt century he was the bishop of Myra. In his church in Demre a big ceremony is held every year on the 6th of December.

The amphitheatre of Myra

Kaputas is a wonderful canyonwith a sandy beach only 15 km. away from Kas.

It is a great (and popular) destination for rafting and canoeing. Paddle the 5 km downstream, and you'l be picked up by jeeps and driven back to Saklikent.
If you are planning a walk through the canyon or some rock climbing, don't forget to take along waterproof footwear with ridged soles - diving boots are the best bet!
